Spring is in the air, which also means it’s time for the International Consular Ball. An Atlanta tradition for 28 years, the International Consular Ball honors the Georgia Consular Corps for its efforts in furthering international relations in Atlanta and the southeastern United States. In this regard, the Georgia Council for International Visitors and the Georgia Consular Corps share a similar mission. The Consular Ball is Atlanta's premier international celebration and networking event, and is sure to be a night to remember.
The sights and sounds of Carnevale will provide ambience at this year’s event, which takes place on June 6th at the Georgia Aquarium. Carnevale is deeply rooted in history and culture. During the eighteenth century, a fantastic crowd of fire-eaters, tumblers, sellers of miracle potions, and wild animal tamers appeared and performed in the squares on the bridges of Venice. GCIV offers participants the opportunity to purchase authentic Venetian masks by Franco, one of the few master mask makers in Venice. Masks are available at www.gciv.org. Please get yours early—only a few will be available the evening of the event.
The 2009 ball committee is working diligently to ensure that this year’s event is the most spectacular to date. Committee members include Cordelia Blake, Gudrun Chapman, Lindsay Davidson, Andrea Denny, Jorge Fernandez, Silvia Fernandez, Orysia Fisher, Yonni Kim, Nina Medici, John Parkerson, Wayne Reece, Lucie Rivera-O’Ferrall, Mark Towery, Henrie Treadwell, Annie-York Trujillo, and Miller Williams.
The International Consular Ball raises funds for the Georgia Council for International Visitors, a nonprofit organization which works to promote international understanding through citizen diplomacy. Tickets to the International Consular Ball can be purchased at www.gciv.org or by calling 404-832-5560 x 19. Some corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available – contact Shell Stuart at 404-832-5560 x 21 or shell@gciv.org.
